The 7th Ward is situated between Esplanade and Elysian Fields with the Marigny at its South end, and Gentilly and City Park to the North.
The 7th Ward is famous for frequent second line parades, especially on Super Sundays, and shotgun style homes. In recent years, several local businesses and even a few homeowners have embraced the work of street artists, creating a neighborhood sized work of art, the most iconic of which is pictured to the left at the Community Book Center. |
RestaurantsThe 7th Ward has so many delectable restaurants that it's hard to choose which ones to feature. The Half Shell on the Bayou is one of its newest additions.Locally owned by natives of New Orleans, the traditional New Orleans dishes are amazing.
Other local favorites are: McHardy's Chicken, Coco Hut, the Pagoda Cafe, Cajun Seafood, the CC's on Esplanade, and Nonna Mia's Cafe and Pizzeria. |

There are several smaller grocery stores in the 7th Ward, that not only have staple items, but also feature local and international flavors in their delis, like North Broad Seafood and Canseco's.
For larger shopping trips, most locals in the 7th, travel to the Whole Foods are the Rouse's supermarkets, both of which sit on the border between Midecity and the 7th Ward. |
The 7th Ward has been one of the central locations for Mardi Gras Indian culture. Super Sundays and several other moments will be punctuated by the travelling party known as a Second Line, that weaves itself through the streets. Yes, traffic will be stopped as the party goes on.
Some of you will find your home inside this warm, vibrant neighbor, while others will prefer other areas, like MidCity and Gentilly. |
